On August 24, 2005 the Anaheim City Council unanimously approved The Irvine Company's plans to build a community of approximately 2,500 for-sale homes that will serve as a gateway to vast preserved open spaces on the nearby Irvine Ranch Land Reserve ®. The council's 5-0 vote represents a major step forward in the company's meticulous efforts to bring much-needed for-sale housing to this part of Orange County.

This follows the Anaheim Planning Commission's unanimous approval of the Mountain Park project on July 27, 2005 and a series of public meetings, during which, the City of Anaheim's numerous advisory commissions reviewed the Draft Environmental Impact Report.
What is an Environmental Impact Report?
The Draft Environmental Impact Report describes the project, the potential environmental impacts of various alternatives, and plans for mitigation measures. The City of Anaheim conducted extensive technical studies to identify potential impacts associated with the proposed development of Mountain Park. All environmental impacts of the project, including traffic, noise, water quality and wildlife corridors, to list a few, were addressed in the EIR.
On April 4, 2005, the City of Anaheim released the Draft EIR for the public to review and comment, and residents had until May 17, 2005 to provide input. The report was circulated so the public could evaluate not only on the impacts that were anticipated, but also the best ways to offset them.
The project mitigation section is one piece of the entire EIR. Based on findings of the EIR, the city determined what mitigation measures needed to occur in order to reduce or eliminate the project's potential impacts. The Irvine Company will then to accommodate and fulfill those measures.
