Mountain Park Update - Map

1. Gypsum Canyon Nature Trail. This scenic trail will be the community's dominant open space and recreational amenity. It will travel alongside a riparian wildlife corridor that meanders from one end of Mountain Park's valley to the other. Residents and the public alike, public will be able to hike, bicycle, jog, bird-watch and enjoy picnics along the approximately mile-long trail. It will link with community trails and footpaths that will fan out into neighborhoods. The trail also will provide access to Featherly Park and the Santa Ana River trail system as well as future links to trails leading into the Cleveland National Forest and wildlands on The Irvine Ranch®.

2. Trail Staging Area. Located outside the community's main entry on Santa Ana Canyon Road, the staging area will be the starting point for visitors who wish to explore Mountain Park's trails and adjacent wildlands. The staging area will include a small parking lot and a kiosk offering information about trails, native wildlife and vegetation.

3. Fire Station. The community will be served by a new city fire station to be located on Santa Ana Canyon Road, just outside the main entrance.

4. Red Rock Outcrop. This scenic rock outcrop will be one of the community's most dominant natural features.

5. Community Recreation Center. The center will serve as a community gathering spot for residents, and will feature pool facilities, among other amenities.

6. Sports Park. Soccer, anyone? How about baseball? This 15-acre lighted sports park will feature a soccer field and two baseball diamonds.

7. Elementary School. Located in the residential enclave known as West Village, the school will serve students from the new community.

8. Quarry Village. This residential enclave will replace the highly visible sand-and-gravel quarry currently in operation, and offer a balance of for-sale attached and detached homes. Several neighborhood parks are planned for this village. Roads will feature landscaped parkways that provide convenient access to parks and trails.

9. Lower Red Rock Village. The focal point of this village will be an attractively landscaped neighborhood park. The village's main road will wind its way through open space before entering the village and terminating at the park. Homes will be screened from the Eastern (241) Toll Road by a slope and landscaped berm.

10. Upper Red Rock Village. This village derives its name from a nearby red rock outcrop. Many of the homes will feature views of the outcrop as well as a major ridge system to the northeast. A portion of the village will be near the Eastern (241) Toll Road but will be screened by landscaped berms and other landforms. This village will comprise single-family detached lots, and will provide direct access to a trail system along Mountain Park Road.

11. Creek Side Village. Comprising single-family detached homes, this village will be nestled into a hillside overlooking the broad interior valley of Gypsum Creek. A meandering path located near the village's access road will provide residents with direct access to the community's trail systems.

12. Canyon Village. The community's most remote enclave, Canyon Village will be oriented toward the hillsides above the broad valley of Gypsum Canyon. To take advantage of backcountry and valley views, home sites will be terraced in curved forms that follow the site's natural landforms. Landscaped parkways will be designed to encourage walking and other outdoor activities.

13. West Village. Located northeast of the Eastern (241) Toll Road, this village will be home to a 15-acre lighted community sports park and an adjacent school. The village's single-family detached home lots will be similar in size to homes in nearby Anaheim Hills. Trails and walkways will provide safe access to the park and school. The village will serve as the main entry to the community from the west.

14. Weir Canyon Road Extension and 241 Interchange. Weir Canyon Road will be extended to the Eastern Toll Road and will serve as the main access road for West Village. A planned onramp and offramp at Weir will provide access to and from the toll road. The new onramp will enable motorists to travel south on the toll road toward the airport area and South Orange County, while the new offramp will enable northbound traffic to exit at Weir for access to Anaheim Hills.

15. Open Space Trails in the new community will connect with more than 50,000 acres of natural open space, parks and trails on The Irvine Ranch. There currently are a variety of docent led activities available throughout The Ranch. For more information, visit www.irvineranchwildlands.org.

16. Gated Entrances. There will be two main entrances into the new community that will have 24-hour manned gates. The gates will help to assure that cut-through vehicular traffic does not occur. The gates will accomodate public access to the on-street bike lanes, trails and open space accessible from Mountain Park Drive and the new staging area outside of the Gypsum Canyon entrance.
